‘Losing The West’
March 21, 2013
After five years in production, a new documentary called, “Losing the West” is about to take Hollywood by storm. This documentary focuses on farming and ranching, told by the point of view of a life-long Colorado cowboy named Howard Linscott. Director and filmmaker Alex Warren describes Linscott as, “the original Marlboro Man – a gruff, chain-smoking 70-year-old who’s been ranching all his life.” While many Hollywood films stereotype cowboys, this documentary aims at giving a non-political, non-confrontational view of America’s growing problem – losing land to urbanization. The film explores the Colorado’s countryside, the cowboy’s beloved traditions and independent lifestyle and the immediacy of a nation that is quickly losing its natural resources – land and water. The documentary also features interviews with Dr. Patricia Limerick of the Center of the American West; Senator Michael Bennett (D-CO); Andy Lipkis, founder and president of TreePeople – one of California’s preeminent environmental
