The 63rd Montana Legislature ended early last Wednesday, April 24. We have some updates on bills that we have been watching through the process and we are waiting for the governor to sign or veto legislation before we can do a final wrap up on the Legislature. Here is how things stand as of today. Water SB 19 “Define combined appropriation for exempt wells” – the Senate concurred with the Governor’s amendments, which Montana Stockgrowers Association (MSGA) supports, but the House did not take action on the amendments, effectively not concurring. The bill returned to the Governor on April 25, for his signature or veto on the original bill, which MSGA opposes. He must act no later than May 5. We expect the governor to veto the bill outright which will send the definition of combined appropriation as it relates to exempt wells to DNRC rulemaking. MSGA feels good about
