The National Gelbvieh and Balancer® show was held Jan. 14, 2013, in conjunction with the National Western Stock Show (NWSS). Entries for the 2013 show were significantly higher than the previous year and 233 Gelbvieh and Balancer bulls and females paraded before Judge Cody Sankey of East Lansing, MI. The show included 74 Gelbvieh females, 50 Gelbvieh bulls, 73 Balancer females and 36 Balancer bulls.
The Grand Champion Gelbvieh Female was exhibited by Britney Volek, Highmore, SD. BVLK 120Y ET is an April 6, 2011, daughter of GKG Harley. This heifer first claimed the junior heifer division.
Emily Griffiths, Kendallville, IN, exhibited the reserve champion Gelbvieh female. GGGE 3G Cowgirl Zesta 204Z is Jan. 14, 2012, daughter of GGGE 3G Time Machine. She was first named champion winter heifer calf.
The Grand Champion Gelbvieh Bull was JRI Crusader 285Y99. Michael York, Carthage, MO, owns this Feb. 18, 2011, son of JRI Top Recruit 254U82, who was first named the champion junior bull.
Exhibiting the Reserve Champion Gelbvieh Bull was Ridinger Cattle Company, Deer Trail, CO. RID R Shotgun Slade 1020X is a Feb. 12, 2010, son of BABR RID Rooster Cogburn. This bull initially won the senior bull division.
In the Balancer Show, the partnership of Britney Volek; Wes and Brittney Spencer; and Jim and Barb Beastrom own the Grand Champion Balancer Female. BABR 1015Y ET is a Feb. 14, 2011, daughter of S A V Brilliance 8077. This female was first named the champion junior heifer.
The Reserve Champion Balancer Female came out of the same junior heifer division. EGL Nicolette Y096 ET is a Feb. 22, 2011, daughter of EGL Northern Dancer. Eagle Pass Ranch, Highmore, SD, exhibited this female who was first named reserve junior heifer.
Boehler Gelbvieh, Orleans, NE, exhibited the grand champion Balancer bull. XXB Insidious 612Y is a Jan. 24, 2011, son of Silveiras Style 9303, who first claimed the jr. bull division.
Coming out of the winter bull calf division is the Reserve Grand Champion Balancer Bull, GGGE 3G EZ Money 209Z. This Jan. 16, 2012, son of DUFF Basic Instinct is owned by Overmiller Gelbvieh and Emily Griffiths, Smith Center, KS.
The honors of premier exhibitor and premier breeder went to Emily Griffiths, Kendallville, IN.
