Animal ID

Is anyone concerned about the two faces that South Dakotans wear concerning animal ID?

We farm and ranch here in Kansas and we also own South Dakota summer pasture. Our brand is registered in both Kansas and South Dakota. When we move our cattle into South Dakota, we are required to have recorded individual 15-digit ID numbers. When we move our cattle back to Kansas, it is much easier. Kansas accepts our herd brand as identification.

When I read your Tri-State Livestock News report of the Animal ID Listening Session, I was absolutely appalled to see all these South Dakota people holding up brands and saying that a registered brand is effective animal ID. How many of these people realize that right now South Dakota does not accept a registered brand as animal ID? Please help inform people. Should South Dakotans change their laws of animal entry into the state, or should they submit to the same rules they impose on others?
