Price Family Ranch & Friends Production Horse Sale

Price Ranch, Dennis and Claudia Price, along with their family, Joey, Jacki, Josi and Jet, held a very successful performance and ranch horse sale on May 22. A huge crowd of buyers and bidders packed into the indoor arena at the Cadillac Ranch, near Belle Fourche, SD, for the sale.

The Prices have not had a sale for several years, opting instead to create an event where they could offer a great selection of working ranch and performance horses in volume. Of the 68 head cataloged, 48 were from the Price Ranch. The consignment horses were from friends and neighbors, which really complemented the Price horses.

This sale has been several years in the making and presented a great opportunity for buyers to choose from an excellent selection of performance horses, two-year-old prospects and yearlings. The Price family uses their horses in every aspect of ranching. The horses are first and foremost ranch horses but when the work is done they are loaded up and hauled to rodeos, jackpot ropings and barrel racings.

The top-selling horse was Lot 16, Jacki Master, a 2004 bay gelding. This gelding is sired by the late Cozmo Rocket, a grandson of Jet Deck and out of a Ship Master X Mr. Fiestywood dam. This sharp looking, handy-sized gelding had been started in heading and calf roping, plus he's dragged a lot of calves to the branding fire. Erdean and Verna Olson, Black Hawk, SD, were the buyers at $11,250.

Olson's also purchased Lot 8, Jets Conquest, a 2003 sorrel gelding for $10,100. This horse is also sired by Cozmo Jet and out of a Final Conquest, Dash for Cash X Folk Dancer mare. Another nice, gentle horse that can get along with most everybody and has done it all on the ranch, from doctoring cows in the pasture, pulling bulls and dragging calves to the fire.

Fred and Lynn Hershey, Dillon, MT, purchased two mares out of Cozmos Jet at $9,400 each. Lot 6, Cozmos Honey, a 2003 bay mare, is out of a Ship Master X Retwist mare. This solid breakaway, team roping and barrel horse could be hauled and won off of.

Lot 10, Mercedes Cozmo, a 2005 black mare is out of Marilyns Mercedes, a Strawfly X Royal Quick Dash bred mare. This mare has a good start on the barrels and been hauled to a few jackpots. She has tons of speed and should be competitive on any level.

The next two top-selling horses both sold to Merlin Ranch, Buffalo, WY. Lot 7, Strawflyin Rocket, a 2004 black gelding sold for $8,900. This horse is a full brother to the Lot 10 horse, sired by Cozmos Jet and out of the Marilyns Mercedes mare. This is the horse that Price Ranch planned to use as a replacement stallion when Cozmo Jet passed, until he got too big. He has made a tremendous gelding with lots of cow. He has had tons of steers roped off him and is started on the barrels with a great disposition.

Lot 14, Double O Merada, a 2007 sorrel gelding sired by Shiners Desperado by Shining Spark, sold for $7,800. This gelding is out of Merada Quick Lena, a daughter of Paddys Irish Whiskey and a Freckles Playboy X Doc O Lena dam.
