The 3rd Annual Black Hills Roundup Ranch Rodeo was held July 1 at Belle Fourche, SD. Ushered in by a thunderstorm that settled the dust, the Ranch Rodeo enjoyed a big crowd and top contestants. Ten teams entered the five events, and were an impressive group of cowboys mounted on top horses.

The stock was excellent, with yearling heifers for the “Sorting and Stray Gathering,” as well as the Longhorn cows and calves for the “Branding” and “Wild Cow Milking” provided by Crago Land and Livestock. Schmidt Rodeo brought in some top bucking horses for the “Ranch Bronc Ride,” with their signature high, wide and handsome bucking style. Pickup men for the bronc ride were Clete Schmidt, Belle Fourche, SD, and Clint Humble, Newell, SD, who were also contestants on the St. Onge Livestock team.

Strict rules pertaining to the handling of horses and cattle were explained and followed throughout the event, making it a pleasure to watch and a positive experience for the non-ranching attendees in the crowd. F
