The Days of ’76 Rodeo at Deadwood, SD has a long history of great rodeo performances and the 2012 steer roping was no exception. With 81 ropers – some of the top in the nation – it was another standout performance.

The roping steers were fresh, jumping up before they could be tied. As the rounds progressed, times speeded up and the roping got very tough. Winning the first round with a 10.5-second time was Howdy McGinn of North Powder, OR. Second round saw former world champion Ralph Williams, Skiatook, OK with a 9.5-second run. Round three was won by Cody Lee, Gatesville, TX with a time of 9.2.

Steady, solid times generally win the day in steer roping, though, and Trevor Brazile’s performance of 37.7 on three steers did the trick for him, and he was the winner.

Placings are as follows:

1. Trevor Brazile, Decatur, TX, 37.7 on three; 2. Brad Prather, Skiatook, OK, 37.8 on three; 3. Joe Wells, Cisco, TX, 44.1 on three; 4. Chuck Thompson, unknown, 45.0 on three; 5. J.R. Olson, Newcastle, WY, 45.9 on three.
