Angus Partners Commercial Heifer Sale

1010 Bred Heifers – $1,701

1147 Open Heifer calves – $1,082

Spickler Angus Ranch and McCumber Angus Ranch hosted the 7th Annual Angus Partners Female Sale on Jan. 4, at Kist Livestock Auction in Mandan, ND. This sale is the result of two very progressive-thinking Angus ranches, looking for a way to help bull customers create more value for their cattle. The sale also provides the buying public an opportunity to purchase top-quality replacement females with identified genetics in volume. All cattle in the sale were sired-by or bred to a Spickler or McCumber Angus bull.

Topping the bred heifer division was a draft of 48 head consigned by Roger Gibbon, Milnor, ND. The Heifers were almost entirely sired by S Elevate 9165. They were bred to light birth weight bulls from the Spickler Ranch to begin calving March 10. Twenty four of these bred heifers sold for $2,500 a head and the remaining went for $2,000 a head.

Also selling at $2,500 each was a draft of 13 head consigned by Haugen Cattle Company, Hannaford, ND. These heifers were bred to McCumber 4X13 Extra 975 ultra-sounded to start calving Feb. 20.

The next high-selling group of bred heifers was consigned by Roger Simon, Tolstoy, SD. This group of baldie heifers were out of the front end of his home raised replacements. The Angus genetics are from GAR Predestined and TC Advantage. The Hereford genetics include Dakota Lad grandsons. This group of 40 head sold for $2,100 a head.

Rounding out the high selling bred heifers was a draft of 24 head that were consigned by the McDougall Ranch, Rock Lake, ND. These heifers were bred to Sinclair Extra 4x13 and have been ultra-sounded to begin calving on April 1. This group of bred heifers sold for $2,050 a head.

The top-selling group of open heifers was consigned by Kipp Sparrow, Mercer, ND. This group of heifers includes the entire top cut of their heifer calves. Some of these heifers were sired by S Elevate 9165. The pasture sires include many of top bulls from the Spicklers including sons of Foresight, King, Rock, Chisum, Rainmaker, and Alliance. This draft of 76 open heifers sold for $1,350 a head.

The next high-selling draft of open heifers was 30 head consigned by Ron and Dorothy Slaubaugh, Wolford, ND. These heifers were sired by Sinclair Extra 4x13, Sitz JLS Emulation EXT 536P, and OCC Missing Link. The heifers are March and April born. These heifers weighed 676 pounds and were sold for $1,300.

Selling at $1,250 a head was a draft of 58 open heifers consigned by The Crider Ranch, Donnybrook, ND. The heifers are sired by sons of VRD, 004, Rainmaker 6536 and Missing Link, as well as sons of S Grid Maker 5131 and Expedition. These heifers weighed 722 pounds and were purchased for $1,250.

Rounding out the high selling open heifers was a draft of 80 head also selling at $1,250 a head that was consigned by The Kraft Ranch, Rugby, ND. This set of March and April born females are mainly sired by sons and grandsons of VRD, 004, Timberwolf, McCumber Foundation 701, McCumber Tradition 383, Sitz JLS Emulation EXT 536p, and EXT.
