Gaaskjoken Ranch "Building with the Basics" Production Sale

Date: March 6, 2013

Location: Lemmon Livestock, Lemmon, SD

Averages:

71 Yearling Bulls – $3,493

81 Open Heifers – $1,140

Another successful bull sale for Keith and Roxi Gaaskjolen at Lemmon Livestock in Lemmon, SD. The air was bitter outside but it made every “bidder better” as auctioneer Scott Weishaar would put it. Right along with one purebred Gelbvieh, 57 hybrid, and 17 Angus bulls offered for live auction were 81 home raised heifers. Both genders reflected the top notch quality the Gaaskjolen Ranch is known for, this resulted in “better bidders bidding” (auctioneer humor) from miles around. Bulls were distributed from Iowa to Wyoming and everywhere in between. Also a large majority of local producers purchased bulls. The desirability of the cattle was matched with great customer service offered by the Gaaskjolen family. Not only did the bulls and heifers bring docility, calving ease, and eye appeal to the sale ring, they also had the genetics and EPDs to back it up.

At the top Lot 22, Gaask Total Z2211, A 50/50 Gelbvieh-Angus cross bull out of ZJG U8193 and a Grid Topper dam. This powerful homozygous black yearling posted EPDs of BW 0.5, WW 48, YW 99 and Milk 24, backed with a actual BW on 3/11/12 of 84 pounds. His adjusted WW was 779 pounds and adjusted YW was 1,385 pounds only added to his desirability. Sweet Grass Ranch of Weston, WY, took him home for $6,750.

Lot 71 sold for $6,250 to Veal Black Angus of Meadow, SD. Gaask Final Answer Z2156 is a registered Angus bull sired by the great SAV Final Answer 0035. Born 2/19/12 he weighed 80 pounds followed up with an adjusted WW of 712 pounds and an adjusted YW of 1,375 pounds. His EPDs reflected his all around performance with a BW -0.5, WW 54, YW 96 and Milk 24. What an oustanding son out of a well respected sire.

Lot 21, Gaask Focus Z2322, is a 13 percent Gelbvieh, 87 percent Angus bull bought by Scott Bradec of Marmath, ND, for $5,750. This Gaask Focus X0102 son weighed 68 pounds at birth on 2/27/12 but with an average daily gain of 4.3 he posted an adjusted WW of 780 pounds and an ajusted YW 1,466 pounds. His EPDs were BW -1.8, WW 34, YW 80 and Milk 17.

Lot 74, a purebred Angus bull, was purchased by SoDak Angus of Reva, SD, for $5,500. Gaask Chisum Z2140 is his name and crushing the scale is his game. This bull has an average daily gain of 4.9 pounds. Accented with an 84 pound BW, 697 pound adjusted WW and a 1,476 pound adjusted YW. His EPDs were BW 3.3, WW 58, YW 104 and Milk 31.
