Iron Mountain Cattle Company Annual Production Sale


Date: March 25, 2013

Location: Belle Fourche Livestock Exchange, Belle Fourche, SD

Average: 107 Angus bulls – $3,182

Iron Mountain Cattle Co., owned by Dan Long and managed by Mike and Kathy Davis, held their annual bull sale at the Belle Fourche Livestock Exchange on March 25, 2013.

The Iron Mountain cowherd was built on a solid foundation of genetics from Schaff Angus Valley, Assman Land & Cattle and Sinclair Cattle Co. The bulls in this sale represent those genetics mated with the top herd bulls in the Angus breed. The bulls were loaded with muscle, thickness and calving ease. Plus the all-important carcass traits feeder cattle buyers are demanding.

This was a very good sale for the crew at Iron Mountain Cattle Co., there were no extreme tops, with bulls selling in price ranges to fit all buyers. And every bull had a new home at the end of the day.

The top selling bull for the day was lot 12, Iron Mtn Final Answer 2013, a 2/4/12 son of SAV Final Answer 0035 with EPDs of BW -.06, WW 60, YW 105, Milk 24. This calving ease, performance bull had a very moderate birthweight of 66 pounds, weaning weight of 764 pounds and yearling weight of 1345 pounds. Dan Tracy, Newcastle, WY, was the buyer at $6,500.

Lot 89, Iron Mtn Roll Call 2213, a 3/11/12 son of Sitz Uppward 307R with EPDs of BW 2.7, WW 59, YW 113, Milk 34 sold to Buford Ranches, Vinita, OK, for $6,000. This well balanced bull had a 205-day weight of 765 pounds, 365-day weight of 1421 pounds with a 41.5 scrotal and REA of 14.4.

Another Upward son also sold at $6,000 to Dan Tracy, Newcastle, WY. Lot 83, Iron Mtn Upward 2036, born 2/9/12 and with EPDs of BW 1.5, WW 64, YW 116, Milk 35. This bull had a 750 pound weaning weight, 1219 pound yearling weight, 39 scrotal and 15.3 inch ribeye.

The next high selling bull was Lot 41, Iron Mtn Potential 2030, a 2/8/12 son of SAV Potential 0205 with EPDs of 1.4, WW 58, YW 105, Milk 28 sold to Micky Simons, Enning, SD, for $5,750.

Also selling for $5,750 was Lot 14, Iron Mtn Final Answer 2074, a 2/15/12 son of SAV Final Answer 0035 with EPDs of BW 0.4, WW 57, YW 99, Milk 26 to Bob Ducheneaux, Mobridge, SD.

Another $5,750 bull was that sold to Dan Tracy of Newcastle, WY, was lot 24, Iron Mtn Pioneer 2016, a 2/5/12 son of SAV Pioneer 7301 with EPDs of BW 1.5, WW 69, YW 117, Milk 35.
