2010 South Dakota State Fair 4-H Market Lamb results

BROOKINGS, SD – Abigail Englin of Brookings County and Brinn Begalka of Deuel County were named the overall grand and reserve champions in the 2010 South Dakota 4-H market lamb competition at the South Dakota State Fair.

Brad Ellerbrock of Atkinson, IL, served as judge for the event, which featured 40 classes of market ewes and wethers.

Englin’s lamb was the Division X market wether champion and weighed 158 pounds. Begalka’s reserve-champion lamb was a Division IV market ewe and weighed 125 pounds.

Ashley Geary, Union County, was champion in market wool ewe division with her 118-pound lamb. Ali Rist, Turner County, was reserve champion with a 106-pound entry.

In the market wool wether division, Amy Wolff of Grant County exhibited the champion 121-pound lamb. Reserve champion honors went to Turner County 4-H’er Jamie Flint with her 111-pound lamb.

Regan Heine, Clay County, and Jacklyn Meyer, Spink County, took home grand and reserve champion honors in the Division III market ewes with their 101- and 106-pound entries, respectively.

In the Division IV market ewe contest, Eric Anderson from Union County took the reserve championship with a 125-pound ewe. Anderson also took the grand champion Division V crossbred ewe title showing an animal that weighed 127 pounds. The reserve champion, Brooke Begalka of Deuel County, showed a 129-pound entry in that division.

Brookings County 4-H’ers took home the Division VI market ewe honors. Abigail Englin exhibited the 136-pound champion and reserve champion Brady Miller showed a 124-pound lamb.

Regan Heine of Clay County received grand-champion honors when he exhibited a 133-pound wether that reigned over Division VII. Garrett Wessel, Brule County, exhibited the 123-pound reserve champion in this division.

Brown County 4-H’er Carly Wheeting exhibited the 133-pound Division VIII champion market wether. Julianna Albrecht of Kingsbury County took reserve champion with her 134-pound lamb.

Spink and Union County 4-H’ers Cooper Cordon and Eric Anderson took home grand-and reserve-champion honors in the Division IX market wethers contest with their 135-pound and 144-pound lambs, respectively.

In the heavyweight wether division, Brady Miller of Brookings County led his class, 150-pound wether to the reserve champion honor.
