2011 Central Dakota Bull Day set for Jan. 22 in Bismarck

Cattlemen attending the Central Dakota Bull Day, Jan. 22, 2011 in Bismarck, ND, will be able to learn about DNA testing of cattle and see some of the outstanding animals that are the result of that technology.

The featured speaker for the event is Zac Hall with the Igenity company. Hall says by taking a single DNA sample, cattlemen can make more informed and confident decisions about breeding, managing and marketing cattle than ever before. Hall says many of the bulls at the Bull Day event will have been DNA tested for economic factors like gainability and carcass quality.

The popular Central Dakota Bull Day will feature about 40 pens of bulls which will be on display from 10 a.m. until noon at Farmers Livestock Auction. Following a noon lunch and Hall’s talk, the bulls will be paraded through the sale ring, at which time information will be given about each breeder’s production and marketing program.

Sponsored by area cattlemen and supported by area businesses, the Central Dakota Bull Day gives seedstock producers an opportunity to display their animals to a large number of potential buyers at one location on one day. At the same time, it affords commercial cattlemen a chance to view cattle from a variety of breeds and breeding programs.

The event is free and open to the public.
