2012 Western Jr. Livestock Show celebrates 75th anniversary

Western Jr. Livestock Show

The 2012 Western Jr. Livestock Show and Western 4-H Family and Consumer Science Show will be held Oct. 10-13 at the Central States Fairgrounds in Rapid City, SD.

This year marks a special and exciting milestone – the Golden-Diamond Anniversary show of the event. The Family and Consumer Science Show, formerly known as the Western 4-H Home Economics Show, celebrates its 50th year, while the Western Jr. Livestock Show celebrates its 75th anniversary.

Special events and contests are being organized for past and present participants to become acquainted and celebrate the longevity and friendships the shows have created. Over the years the event has drawn contestants from South Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming.

The board of directors of both shows would like to hear from former contestants, parents of participants, Extension educators and former members of the board. They have set up a Facebook page, Western Junior Livestock/FCS Show, and are planning activities to celebrate the show’s successes over so many years.

While many events are still in the planning stage, the committee wants everyone to mark their calendars, write their memories, plan to attend to reconnect with friends and also to participate in the contests and festivities on the days of the show. Organizers are especially looking for third, fourth and fifth generation families of the shows or combined shows. The shows and contests will not require pre-registration.
