June 29, 2012
PINEDALE – The annual Environmental Stewardship Tour, hosted by the Wyoming Stock Growers Association (WSGA) and Wyoming Department of Agriculture, will be held at Sommers’ Ranch, near Pinedale, WY on Thursday July 12, beginning at 9 a.m.
Siblings Albert and Jonita Sommers are recipients of the 2012 Leopold Conservation Award, Wyoming’s premier recognition of private land stewardship. The bus tour will showcase the excellent land, water and wildlife management efforts that led to the Sommers receiving the award.
A full day of activities is planned. In addition to the bus tour of the ranch, there will be speakers, lunch, and an evening social and banquet.
Sommers’ Ranch is a third generation cattle and native hay operation. Included in their many conservation practices was the establishment of a 19,000-acre conservation easement, which includes public fishing access.
The Environmental Stewardship Tour and Leopold Conservation Award are part of the WSGA’s Environmental Stewardship Program. Partners in this program include the WSGA, Wyoming Department of Agriculture, Sand County Foundation, Encana Oil and Gas USA Inc., and Peabody Energy.
To attend the tour, RSVP by July 6 at 307-638-3942. A limited block of rooms has been reserved at the Pinedale Hampton Inn and Suites. Call 307-367-6700 and ask for the WSGA rate.
