Feeding South Dakota receives $212K donation

South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation overwhelmingly exceeds original donation pledge by $62,000.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota (June 27, 2016) -The South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation presented a check for $212,000 to Feeding South Dakota on Saturday night during the Prime Time Gala & Concert. This amount exceeded their original pledge amount of $150,000. Over 1,300 guests attended the third annual gala that also included a silent and live auction as well as a raffle of a new truck from Woodhouse Auto Family. Again at this year’s live auction a custom-designed livestock trailer from Eby was featured that sold for $36,000. During the gala, four students interested in the improvement of beef production and promotion were also awarded scholarships from the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation to aid in their education. After the gala, the night was highlighted with a country music concert at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center with The Swon Brothers

and Chase Bryant as well as headliner, Toby Keith.

“The South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation is truly humbled and inspired by the results of the third annual Gala,” exclaimed Ryan Eichler, President of the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation. “The success of this event is a direct reflection of the generosity of our industry partners and the men and women who work tirelessly to produce the most wholesome protein in the world. In the face of difficult economic times, they gave in a big way to make beef available to those in South Dakota who need it the most. We’d like to say thank you and we can’t wait to start planning next year’s event!”

While protein is a critical part of any meal, it has made up less than 5% of the 12.5 million pounds of food that Feeding South Dakota distributes on an annual basis. High quality protein, like beef, plays an important role in overall health, including weight control, by increasing satiety and helping to build and maintain muscle mass. Because protein is one of the most satiating nutrients, eating a protein-rich meal or snack can help adults and children feel full longer to help reduce snacking on empty calories.

This year’s donation exceeded the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation goal by $62,000. “We were completely stunned by the announcement that the Prime Time Gala had raised $212,000 to support Feeding South Dakota,” said Matt Gassen, CEO of Feeding South Dakota. “What the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation, the sponsors and all the donors made happen Saturday night was unbelievable and will help to make over 200,000 pounds of beef available to struggling South Dakota families. There simply aren’t enough words to express our gratitude to everyone who made this gift possible, especially to all the cattlemen and women who work hard every day to provide beef to help feed the world. They are great people, doing great things, to support the hungry

in our great state.”
