Black Hills Stock Show: Exotic mounts on display Jan. 28-30

Gayle Smith

Exotic animal mounts will be the focus of the South Dakota Wildlife Adventures display during the Black Hills Stock Show (BHSS). The Exotic Animals of the World Wildlife Display, trade show and seminars will be held at the Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn on Friday, Jan. 28 through Sunday, Jan. 30. The show begins at 9 a.m. all three days. Admission for the event is $5 for adults.

During this year’s event, the public will have an opportunity to view African big game and other exotic mounts that are rarely seen in this country, courtesy of Cabela’s World Class Mounts. The South Dakota Youth Hunting Association, who is one of the beneficiaries of the event, will also bring some Exotic North American game mounts.

“The South Dakota Outdoor Adventures is a partnership between the South Dakota Youth Hunting Association and the BHSS,” says Ron Jeffries, BHSS general manager. “This display has been a big hit every year.”

The South Dakota Landowners Social will be held at the Holiday Inn on Friday evening at 5 p.m. The purpose of the South Dakota Outdoor Adventures is to allow young people access to farms and ranches in the area so they learn about food, and what farmers and ranchers do on a daily basis. It is about more than hunting, it is about a way of life.

Part of the group’s mission is to introduce the youth to farmers and ranchers. By holding the social for landowners, it is a way to thank them for what they do for the group. Some of the youth have learned life lessons about where food comes from and how hunting works.

On Saturday evening, a hunter’s social and auction will be held at the Holiday Inn at 5 p.m. The public is invited to attend. The proceeds from the auction will help support the South Dakota Youth Hunting Association, which is a group that supports youth and helps children who wouldn’t have an opportunity to learn about nature and hunting, to be paired with a mentor through the program.
