Thar’s Ranch Sorting at the Black Hills Stock Show event, sanctioned by the Ranch Sorting National Championship (RSNC), was a huge success, with 323 runs, and more than $7,400 awarded in jackpot money, six buckles, six trophy halters, and 30 RSNC state champion coats.

This event was the year-end state finals for South Dakota and Wyoming, and was open to constants from these states that accumulated points throughout the year competing in RSNC-sanctioned events.

First place in the beginner state title went to Warren West (SD) and Linda Wilkins (WY). Rookie state title went to Greg Brewer (SD) and Nadine McCreery (WY). Novice state title went to Lisa Horn (SD) and Zane Thar (WY). Amateur state title went to David Horn (SD). Master state title went to Harvey Gibbs (WY).

The first place top point earners in each division for the show won trophy buckles. Second place received a trophy halter. Open winner went to David Horn (SD). Novice winner went to Claudia Hershey (CO) and second place Lisa Horn (SD). Rookie went to Charlie Wilkins (WY) and second place Nadine McCreey (WY).
