Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo has action packed 10 days

Kicking off the first weekend is the ESPN PRCA Xtreme Bull Riding which will be held on Friday, January 30th and Saturday, January 31st at 7:30 pm. Featuring top 40 bull riders in the nation including top 4 Badlands Circuit members Charles Zoss, Brian Curtis, Ardie Maier and Jesse Bail.

The NEW Saddle Bronc Tour which is open to the first 50 bronc riders will be held on Saturday, January 31st at 1:00 pm with a Finals being held on Saturday night along with the PRCA Xtreme Bull Riding. Contestants will be pro, college, amateur, and high school, competing for the largest purse offered in a Bronc Riding match in South Dakota.

To finish out the first weekend the 7th Annual 20X Extreme High School Showcase Rodeo will be held starting at 1:00 pm. This rodeo will feature ninety-six of the top rodeo competitors in the state. An Extreme College Fair will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 am in the south balcony of the rodeo arena. There is no charge to attend and is open to any interested student wanting to college rodeo.



Back by popular demand will be the National Finals Wild Horse Race. Rounds will be held during the Xtreme Bull Riding and Saddle Bronc Match with the Finals during the 20X Extreme High School Showcase. The 2nd weekend of the Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo kicks off the 2009 tour season with five rounds held during the rodeo performances February 5th through February 7th with a short round on February 8th.

The Rodeo Zone, in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Expansion Facility, will be open daily. This is a new and exciting area which will feature interactive booths, dummy roping, mechanical bull competitions, and games. Meet and great the rodeo contestants and queens, rodeo sponsors and enjoy live entertainment by Susie Dobbs and others.



The 24th Annual KBHB Bucking Horse & Bull Sale will be held on Wednesday, February 4th at 10:00 a.m. Sale features include crop of coming 4 year old horses raised by Sutton Rodeos sired by studs Waynes World, Shot Gun, Royal River and Showtime, all sons of Justin Boots and NFR ranch raised mares including Alley Cat, Shot Gun, Big Wild Fun and Showtime. This will be the last colt crop from NFR Stud Justin Boots. Thirty head of bulls from several different consignors featuring Borba fighting bulls. A nice young set of bulls is coming to town. Some of the bulls have been used in the NFR and the PBR telecasts have come out of these same cowherds.

Rodeo Timed Event slack will be held on Thursday, February 5th at 3:00 pm, Friday, February 6th at 9:30 am and 3:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the box office to attend the Slack sessions.

The PRCA Pro Rodeo Tour performances will be held starting on Thursday, February 5th. Featuring John Payne, PRCA Dress Act of the Year, and Keith Isley, PRCA Clown of the Year. Bring back the days of Casey Tibbs with a Mane Hold, Bucking Horse Riding during the Friday afternoon performance, February 6th. Wrapping up the 2009 Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo on Sunday, February 8th will be the Sutton Rodeo Short Round. Champions will receive US Smokeless Tobacco awards, Landstroms Original Black Hills Gold pocket watches and James Sutton Sr Memorial Bronze.
