Campbell Red Angus Annual Bull Sale

Scott Dirk

Auctioneer Lynn Weishaar and bull buyer Keith Morrell of Union Center, SD, at the Campbell Red Angus sale.

Campbell Red Angus held their annual bull sale at the Mobridge Livestock Auction on March 7. There was a very nice crowd on buyers on hand with many new faces in the seats.

The Campbell family has been in the Red Angus business for over 40 years. With the retirement of Harold and his son Robert taking over the operation, the focus remains the same – produce cattle that will perform in the real world. They have never chased fads of the newest artificial insemination (AI) bull of the day. Instead they have purchased herd bulls from breeders that focus on the same economical traits that they believe in: easy-keeping, easy-fleshing cattle that will bring in a big calf at weaning time and breed back.

The bulls in the sale were developed with commercial cattlemen in mind. They were in good sale condition and sold to a nice crowd of new and repeat buyers.

Lot 1, CBR Clarance 01-744, a 3/7/10 son of CFRA T3 Chief 0509 with EPDs of BW -0.6, WW 42, YW 92, Milk 18 and TM 39, was the top-selling bull at $9,000 to Bauman Red Angus, Linton, ND. This powerful calving ease bull had a 205-day weight of 745 lbs. and 365-day weight of 1,429 lbs.

Lot 17, CBR Triple Duty 0364-346, a 3/24/10 son of CBR Double Duty 351-731 with EPDs of BW 5.0, WW 56, YW 100, Milk 11 and TM 39, sold to Gerald and Evelyn Kadrmas, Dodge, ND, at $6,500.
