October 29, 2010
On Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, the 21st annual tribute to South Dakota ranching and rodeo greats will be held at the Casey Tibbs South Dakota Rodeo Center in Fort Pierre, SD.
This year’s honorees include: Chauncey Mandan, “Past Rodeo Great” a bronc rider and colorful legend of the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s; Johnny Smith, “Rodeo Promoter” favorite auctioneer and rodeo voice throughout South Dakota; Jodie O’Bryan “Rodeo Cowgirl Great,” whose impeccable reputation and abilities with young horses is known throughout the country; Steve Sutton, “Rodeo Cowboy Great,” a fourth-generation cowboy and stock contractor with a great reputation as a successful competitor and pickup man; along with Dick and Lois Hart “Ranch Cowboy Family,” a family who has created a well-respected and successful ranching operation in both Hyde and Hughes counties.
In addition to the men and women that have been nominated by their peers, the tribute dinner also honors famous Rodeo Animal Athletes. This year’s honorees are “Justin Boots” the palomino horse and “Chief” the trained buffalo, owned by the Jerry and Jerry Wayne Olson families.
World Champion Billy Etbauer, PRCA’s first three million dollar saddle bronc rider, will be making a special appearance on Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the rodeo center. Billy will also be a special guest of this year’s Tribute Dinner.
The Tribute Dinner, held on an annual basis, is an opportunity for the friends, families, and the ranching and rodeo community as well as the Casey Tibbs Foundation to celebrate and honor the accomplishments and contributions of those cowboys, cowgirls, families and animals throughout South Dakota. Within the rodeo center an informative and pictorial “Wall of Fame” is dedicated to all of the honorees that have been honored over the last 20 years.
