Correction: NILE Gold Buckle Weanling/Yearling Sale

On Oct. 15, 2010, many of the top breeders from across Montana and the adjoining states exhibited and sold an outstanding set of high-quality weanlings and yearlings. The auctioneer was Lynn Weishaar and John Johnson read the pedigrees.

The high-selling horse was a fancy palomino filly consigned by Bar JT Quarter Horses of Volborg, MT. She was sired by Floating Interest, an own son of Dash for Cash, and out of a RC Sail Doc Duster mare. Conformation, condition and pedigree made her the real deal, selling to Kenny Benson of Scobey, MT, for $3,400.

The second high-seller was a weanling filly consigned by Doug Torgerson of Billings, MT. This filly was high-quality and in perfect show condition. Sired by Sucha Smooth Doc x Smooth Town Rebel and out of a Powder River Playboy-bred mare, this filly was purchased by Clinton Brost of Consul, Saskatchewan at the $3,200 figure.

Hip #803 consigned by Three Mile Quarter Horses, Shannon Tarter of Ashland, MT, sold to Robyn Butcher of Nye, MT for $3,100. This palomino yearling mare was sired by Night Time Shiner x Shining Spark and out of a Doc Tari mare.

Bill and Rema Schelm of Billings, MT, consigned two look-alike geldings, both sired by Sams Silver x Silver Enchantment and out of performance-bred mares. These fine geldings sold for $2,400 each and both sold to Rick Young of Absarokee, MT.

The second-high selling weanling was a growthy, fancy sorrel sired by Zipanic x Simply a Spark and out of a double-bred Doc Bar mare. She sold for $1,400. The next high-selling weanling was also sired by Zipanic and sold for $1,200. Both were consigned by Ward and Alice Fenton of Worden, MT, and purchased by Laurie Marcotte of Billings.

Other strong selling consignments were:

• Yearling gelding consigned by Doug Torgerson and purchased by Clinton Brost of Saskatchewan at $1,900.

• Buckskin filly consigned by Gary DeCock of Hysham, MT, and sold at $1,000 to Charsi Workman of Grass Range, MT.

• Fancy black stud colt consigned by Rafter Diamond Quarter Horses of Scobey, MT, and selling to Becky Bateman of Etna, WY at $900.

Thirty head of yearlings averaged $1113 and the weanlings averaged $670. All horses sold at this sale are eligible to enter and come back in 2011 to show in the Yearling and two-year-old Futurities which paid out nearly $10,000 in purse money in 2010.
