Dawes County Youth, Brooke Howard of Whitney, NE, recently won Reserve Champion with her market lamb, Tomato Soup, at the Wyoming State Winter Fair in Lander, WY on March 7, 2009. Howard was also the Reserve Champion Junior Sheep Showman.

Wyoming State Winter Fair is open to any youth under 21 years of age. Youth may show market lambs, swine or goats as well as prospect steers and heifers at the livestock show. Twenty-four lambs from across Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska competed in this year’s show.

Howard won the medium light-weight class and went on to place reserve in the championship round behind Oaklee Anderson of Cheyenne, WY with her medium weight lamb.

Howard joined fellow 4-Her’s Tycee Mohler, Morgan Sanchez, Aaron Whitmore and Melanie Whitmore, from Uinta County, WY, where she spends her summers, at the show. All youth showed lambs and Sanchez also exhibited a market goat.

The youth then sold their livestock at the Junior Livestock Sale held Saturday evening after the show. Wal-Mart of Evanston purchased Howard’s Reserve Champion lamb and Mohler’s lamb, Karen Fields of Coldwell Bankers purchased Sanchez’s goat, Uinta Reality purchased one Whitmore lamb while Murdoch’s of Evanston purchased the other Whitmore lamb. The youth will use the money earned to finance their 4-H projects for this summer.
