Fort Pierre to host branding day, western activities and rodeo

The Casey Tibbs South Dakota Rodeo Center invites SD horse and cattle brand owners to burn their brand into the timbers of the walkway on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012. They will join hundreds of brand owners who have already applied their brands at the Rodeo Center in Fort Pierre, SD.

“It’s going to be a day of fun activities for all ages,” said Director Cindy Bahe. “We have mechanical bull rides for kids ages three to one hundred and three. If you’ve always wanted to learn how to rope, we’ll have cowboys up here to teach you. You can get your photo taken with a rodeo clown and cast your vote in the chili cookoff.”

The roping, mechanical bull rides and photos will begin at 11 a.m. and wrap up at 3 p.m. A chili cook-off will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. featuring chefs from area restaurants. The horse trough will be filled with cold beverages for kids and adults.

Later, the Stirling Family Memorial Rodeo will be held at the Stanley County Fairgrounds. A calcutta and final go round will follow, and a dance will wrap up the evening. Proceeds from the rodeo will assist area cancer survivors. Now in its 15th year, this is the first year the Stirling Rodeo will be held in Fort Pierre.

“Participants do not need tickets to attend the branding and western activities to be held at the Rodeo Center,” Bahe said. “The public is welcome to attend this fun day of branding, roping, riding and eating.” Branders are encouraged to reserve a time to burn their brand.
