Got ’em

The Black Hills Roundup PRCA rodeo weekend was kicked off with a steer roping on June 30.

Steer ropers from all over the country were present, with 12 of the top 20 in the standings competing. Steer roping is a one man, one horse, one steer event, and the teamwork between the roper and his horse is great to watch. With it being a three-head average event, consistency was the key to winning.

The top six in the average were:

1. Vin Fisher, Jr., Andrews, TX, 36.5 on 3 head; 2. Ralph Williams, Skiatook, OK, 37.0 on 3 head; 3. Rocky Patterson, Pratt, KS, 39.1 on 3 head; 4. Chet Herren, Pawhuska, OK, 43.7 on 3 head; 5. J. Paul Williams, Burbank, OK, 46.8 on 3 head; 6. R.A. Lovell, Canby, OR, 64.1 on 3 head.

Vin Fisher, Jr. is currently second in the PRCA standings, with Ralph Williams eighty, Rocky Patterson first, Chet Herren thirteenth, and J. Paul Williams eleventh.

The next steer roping in this region will be at Deadwood’s Days of ’76 Rodeo, July 27-31. The Badlands Circuit Finals Steer Roping will be Aug. 4 at the Days of ’76 Arena.
