Dillon rancher Jules Marchesseault received the Montana Farm Bureau Distinguished Service Award during the Montana Farm Bureau Annual Convention Awards Banquet Nov. 15 in Billings. Marchesseault is a long-time Farm Bureau member who has ranched all his life. He was born and raised in the Grasshopper Valley. Marchesseault, now 80, began developing his leadership skills early as the president of his high school FFA. He served in the United States Army, then he married Bonnie in 1961 and went back to college to study range management. He lived on the K6 ranch, then moved to Birch Creek where his father had purchased a ranch. In 1966 Jules and Bonnie purchased the Studahar Ranch where they have lived ever since, raising cattle and kids.

He has been involved in Farm Bureau for more than 50 years. He has served as president of the Beaverhead, then Northwest, County Farm Bureau, he served on the Montana Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 12 years and served on the board of the Mountain West Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company for 10 years. Over the years he has served on the board of the Beaverhead County Wool Pool, Church Council of the Lutheran Church, president of the Beaverhead County 4-H Foundation and as a trustee for the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch. He has testified on issues of concern at the state and national level, and he and Bonnie have attended 10 American Farm Bureau Conventions.

“Jules has been a true believer in Farm Bureau,” noted MFBF Bob Hanson. “We appreciate his dedication to our organization and what it stands for. Jules is an advocate for property rights. In addition, he always has some good tales of the past and remembers when horses were used before tractors. He was possibly the last person in his Valley to put up hay with a beaver slide. I can’t think of a more worthy person to receive the Distinguished Service Award than Jules Marchesseault.”
