Junior Miss Rodeo SD bids farewell

Junior Miss Rodeo SD 2008

Hello again!

It’s hard to believe that I am no longer Jr. Miss Rodeo South Dakota! This is my final column, and then the new Jr. Miss Rodeo South Dakota will take over.

I kicked off June in Ft. Pierre at the Casey Tibbs Match of Champions. I think that the other girls who attended, which included Courtney Smith, Miss Rodeo South Dakota 2009; McKenzie Haley, Miss Black Hills Stock Show and now Miss Rodeo South Dakota Lady-In-Waiting; and Kelli Page, South Dakota 4-H Rodeo Ambassador, would agree that it was INCREDIBLY cold! We stayed bundled up as much as possible. The broncs seemed like they were enjoying the cold quite a bit more than us!

My next stop was Custer for the Crazy Horse Stampede. For anyone who has never been to it, I definitely encourage you to go! The weather was beautiful, the stock was great, and everything ran very smoothly! Thank you to Cedar Jandreau for helping me carry flags, and to Jim and Carol Korkow for bringing a horse for me!

My final appearance before giving up my title was the Crystal Springs Ranch Rodeo near Clear Lake. It was one of the neatest rodeos I’ve ever been to. The arena is in the middle of a pasture, with natural grandstands formed by the hills surrounding it. Suttons brought a great bunch of horses, as usual, for Courtney Smith, Becka Stevens, Miss Jackrabbit Stampede 2009, and myself, and provided us with a wonderful place to stay!

I finished out my reign in Belle Fourche, where it began a year ago. Nikki Boomsma, Jessica Johnson, Hayley Smith, and Brielle Yackley all did wonderful jobs vying for the title. I crowned Jessica as Jr. Miss Rodeo South Dakota 2009-10. She will do a fantastic job!

So many people have helped me throughout this year, but there are a few who have been really special. Thank you to Jr. Miss Rodeo South Dakota Pageant Coordinator Cindy Wilk and Miss Rodeo South Dakota Committee Member Torey Berdan for all of their help throughout this year. Courtney Smith also deserves a HUGE thank you for letting me invade her hotel rooms in so many different places! And finally, the biggest thank you goes out to my family. I couldn’t have done this without them.
