Kourtney Hauge Jr. Miss Rodeo South Dakota newsletter

The New Year is officially in full swing as January seemed to fly by in the blink of an eye. January was a very busy month as I traveled to the coronation of 2011 Miss Rodeo South Dakota, Vanessa Ternes, in Belle Fourche, SD, the first weekend of January. It was a great time to catch up with some friends and help Vanessa in her efforts to raise money as she serves our state as Miss Rodeo South Dakota this year.

Not only was I able to help at this event, but I was presented my leather coat with fur collar from Jerry Westpahl and the South Dakota Fur Trappers Association that I was awarded as one of my prizes for the Junior Miss Rodeo South Dakota title. The coyote collar is absolutely gorgeous and I cannot thank Jerry enough for everything he does. Not long after Vanessa’s coronation, it was time to begin the spring semester of classes.

I just returned from the Black Hills Stock Show where I was able to carry flags at the PRCA rodeo as wells as the Extreme Bulls Tour. At the Stock Show I was able to catch up with old friends, as well as meet some of the visiting queens from other states and also the new Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo Queen, Trisha Smeenk. Congratulations Trisha! The Rapid City Stock Show is one of my favorite rodeos of the year and it is always a great time to spend with friends and watch some great rodeo performances. Thank you to the Sutton family for putting on such a spectacular event. I hope to see you all at the Stock Show for the second weekend of event-filled action. Until then it’s time for me to study and try to stay warm!

Love and God Bless.
