Lauren Reiser wins 1D Open at Spin Three Spooktacular

Bill Brewster

Lauren Reiser, a 17-year-old senior at Broadwater High School in Townsend, MT, posted the top time with her bay gelding, Dobie Hills, on Oct. 23 during the popular Spin Three Spooktacular Barrel Race at the Circle L Arena.

Reiser’s time of 15.35-seconds was the fastest among the field of contestants from around the region during the first day’s competition.

The six-year-old racing-bred Dobie Hills was purchased two years ago by Reiser from David Bell of Cutbank, MT, after the Quarter Horse had been used on the track. By Special Leader and out of Mary from Montana, with Dash For Cash breeding on both sides, he was bred by Randolph Rasmussen of Sun River.

“When I got him, he had been running on the track and all he knew was his left lead,” Reiser said. “Every time I’d try to put him in a right lead, he’d try to buck.”

The talented young barrel racer went back to working with basic horsemanship principles while following techniques she had learned from barrel racing clinicians Lisa Anderson of Moore, TX and Janet Erickson of Helena, MT.

The October win wasn’t the first victory for Reiser and her horse.
