Ma & Pa Angus 14th Annual Bull Sale

Chisum Peterson

A beautiful, spring day greeted attendees of the Ma & Pa Angus bull sale. A large crowd of new and repeat customers gathered at Presho Livestock Auction to bid and buy a useful, range-ready set of bulls.

Ma & Pa Angus is owned and operated by Steve and Deb Mowry and sons. The Mowrys have worked hard to establish a reputation of breeding sound, functional cattle and offering excellent customer service. They are a no-nonsense cattle outfit that believe in the product they produce and strive to help their customers all that they can. The Mowry family places a strong emphasis on “real world” beef production, with cattle that have the ability to grow and perform without being over fed.

The bull offering was very uniform and the bulls were in “ready to work” condition. Calving-ease bulls were highly sought after and a good group of high performance bulls caught the attention of many cattlemen in attendance.

This year’s sale also featured an excellent group of open replacement heifers. The heifers were uniform, maternal-oriented and high-quality. When the dust settled, the females were sold in one draft to Mark Meir, Mt. Vernon, SD.

High-selling bull of the day was Lot 842, a 2/20/10 son of GDAR Game Day 449 out of an HA Magic Maker 4300 dam, selling to Rex Black, Spencer, NE, for $5,900.

Lot 870, a 2/24/10 son of HA Magic Maker 4300 by a Ma & Pa Feature Presentation dam, sold for $5,700 to Brad Gambill, Johnstown, NE.

Lot 430, a 3/27/10 son of HERO 6267 of RR 2418 by an OCC Echelon 857E dam, was purchased by Lookabill Ranch, Wood, SD, for $5,600.

Lot 543, a 3/31/10 son of HA Magic Maker 4300 by an OCC Emblazon 854E dam, was purchased by Jeff Leber, Colome, SD, for $5,600.
