Mandan Rodeo will be offering children’s activities

The Mandan Rodeo Days Committee invites youngsters to participate in stick horse races July 2-3 and mutton busting on July 2-4.

Free stick horses will be available on July 2-3 for early-bird youngsters. The first 50 children age six and under to enter the gates who wish to compete in the Touchstone Energy “Race of Future Champions” will receive a free Wrangler stick horse. Stick horses are provided by RCC Western Stores.

Ten contestants also are being accepted for the Touchstone Energy mutton busting competition on July 2-4. Winners will receive trophies and prizes courtesy of the U.S. Army. Riders must be age of 6 or younger and weigh no more than 60 pounds. Entries open May 30. To register, phone Sheila Ressler during evening hours at 701-516-4688 or send an e-mail to sresslerranch@hotmail.com.

Mutton busting contestants need to wear western attire including jeans, boots and a long sleeve shirt. Protective helmets and vests are also required and will be made available. Parents of mutton busting contestants must also sign a liability waiver.

July 2 is Family Night at the Mandan Rodeo. Beginning at 5 p.m., rodeo spectators may enjoy a free feed and inflatable games for children hosted by Cumulus Broadcasting.
