Montana: First annual Will James Roundup set for July 8-10 in Hardin

A group of local horse enthusiasts have gathered to put on the first annual Will James Roundup, July 8-10, 2011 at the Big Horn County Fairgrounds in Hardin, MT.

Events will start at 10 a.m. each day and will include working ranch horse, youth ranch horse, cow doctoring and bronc riding competitions, culminating with a ranch rodeo on Sunday, July 10. Events are also sanctioned with the Western States Ranch Rodeo Association.

Will James was a noted cowboy, author, and artist who owned a ranch east of Pryor, MT, known as the Rocking “R” Ranch. In 2009, his log studio and two cabins were donated to the Big Horn County Museum by the Sunlight Ranch. The buildings were moved to the museum grounds and are being restored. Continued maintenance of these buildings and acquisition of other buildings will take additional funds. To support the Will James project, the public has an opportunity to be part of and participate in a three-day local event.

The Museum volunteers and staff will be providing concessions. A small admission will also be taken at the entrance. The Will James Roundup is being supported by donations.
