Nebraska: Beef Feedlot Roundtable offered in Bridgeport Feb. 10; also West Point and Lexington

The 2011 Panhandle Beef Feedlot Roundtable, scheduled for Feb. 10 at Bridgeport, NE, will provide cattle feeders with the latest feedlot health, environment, economics and research topics from University of Nebraska-Lincoln and industry experts.

“Area cattle feeders will have the opportunity to improve feedyard efficiency by attending the Feedlot Roundtable,” said Tom Holman, University of Nebraska Extension Educator.

Topics at the Roundtable include managing cattle comfort; responsible antibiotic use; new product update; the final Confined Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO) rule; feeding options with potentially expensive corn; sulfur and distillers; market structure and value-based pricing; and a research update.

The roundtable begins with registration from 8-8:30 a.m. at the Prairie Winds Community Center. Preregistration is needed by Feb. 3 for an accurate meal count, and can be made by calling 308-632-1480 or 308-262-1022. The meeting will end by 4 p.m.

The cost, including materials, noon meal and breaks is $25 per person. The registration fee is higher for those who are not pre-registered.

The Bridgeport Feedlot Roundtable is one of three across the state. The others are Feb. 8 at West Point and Feb. 9 at Lexington.
