Nine contestants compete for Mandan Rodeo Queen, Princess crowns

Three queen contestants and six princess contestants are vying to serve as ambassadors for Mandan Rodeo Days, the community and sport of rodeo 2011-2012.

Miss Rodeo Mandan contestants in this year’s pageant are Stacy Jangula, Baldwin; Kayla Kessler, Stanton; and Lacy Standing Bear, Cannon Ball.

Princess contestants are Charlie Bailey, Ft. Yates; Kimberly Bauer, Mandan; Brianna Horner, Bismarck; Maison McDowall, Bismarck; Haley Sailer, Hazen; and Caydee Strecker, Washburn.

A pageant luncheon will be held July 2 at noon at the Seven Seas Inn and will feature princess and queen contestant speeches, modeling and impromptu questions. The luncheon is sponsored by Leggette, Brashears, and Graham. Advance tickets may be purchased through by contacting Pageant Coordinator Pierette Johnson, phone 701-527-4324, e-mail mandanpageant@hotmail.com. The cost is $15 in advance of June 26 or $17 at the door.

Horsemanship competition will be held July 3 at 10 a.m. at the rodeo arena at Dacotah Centennial Park. The activity is free and open to the public.

New royalty will be crowned before the July 4 rodeo performance by Miss Rodeo Mandan Casey Johnson, Bismarck; and Miss Rodeo Mandan Princess Kelly Knoll, Mandan.

Among the many prizes awarded are trophy saddles, with the queen’s sponsored by Express Yourself Salon and Spa, Mandan, and the princess saddle sponsored by Western Unlimited, Bismarck. Trophy buckles are sponsored by Great Plains Technical Services and the Mandan Rodeo Committee. The queen will also receive a $1,000 scholarship from the BSC Foundation.
