Pastor in the Pasture: Spring Time: Pasture Transformation

Wendel Elliott
Pastor In The Pasture

Cattle around here are grazing amongst yellow, purple and white wildflowers that blanket the landscape and scenery in the pasture. These flowers are the result of some recent rains this spring. Coming along with that is a good base of green grass as well. It’s really good to see all the green being capped off by the color of those flowers. It’s amazing to think that a few short weeks ago the landscaped looked totally different. Along with the changing views that can happen this time of year, comes the change in numbers on cow/calf operations. Those numbers are increasing as calves have been steadily hitting the ground.

Spring works are in full swing, as well, if not already finished on some ranches. Taking unmarked calves and placing a brand on them. Earmarks being carved in that artistic way with yellow handled Case pocket knives. Vaccinations being given and bull calves becoming steers are all part of the process. Young horses are getting the chance to make their first big gather. Then, they may try their hand at dragging some calves to the fire.

This time of season brings a transformation to landscape, cattle, horses, and ranching men and women. It’s a time to enjoy what has been unfolding behind the scenes. It’s a time to see the transformation that has been taking place.

If you are a follower of Christ, then there has been a transformation that has taken place in your life. This change that has happened inside that causes it to be seen on the outside as well. This evidence of and from the Living Water being displayed, just like the evidence seen on a landscape. No more dead, decaying scenery that is weathered and dried. Instead, it’s a life that is putting off the old self and putting on the new self. A complete transformation that has come about in your life.

“That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:20-24 NIV)

How do we do that? We are transformed by renewing our minds as it says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:1-2 NIV)

Have you gone through that transformation in your life? Have you put off the old self and put on the new self? I sure hope that you have.

Here’s hoping that in your life it looks like some new grass, new calves and a new season of transformation.

I’ll see ya’ll out in the pasture!
