Outside Circle: Indian Relay Races, Cowboy Reunion, HS Fall Extravaganza rodeo, 5-panel reminder, INFR in November

The trees are sure getting pretty along the creeks and foothills. Fall must be upon us. I'm doing a last round of irrigating and will be glad to be done with that for the season. It's sure handy to be able to green some grass up, but it's hard work. Pre-conditioning calves will be about the next thing to get done, plus I'll be getting started on the fall work from four years ago. Or is it five? It sure doesn't seem like I ever get caught up on it. I hope I'm not the only one with that problem.

There's a fund set up for Scott Mackey, Gillette, Wyo. cowboy, who was hurt in a roping accident. His horse whirled into the rope and they went down in a heap and he messed his shoulder up pretty bad. They originally suspected a head injury, but he's checked out okay on that, thankfully. If you want to help him out, go to http://www.YouCaring.com and look for his name. If you're on Facebook, you can contact Kathy Schaeffer and she can point you in the right direction.

The Indian Relay Races at the Black Hills Speedway will be October 7-9. On the 7th they will be at 5 p.m., on the 8th at 4 p.m. and the 9th at 3 p.m. Be ready for some amazing riding ability as those young guys ride their relay horses bareback and the competition is fierce. I suspect you'll want to get your tickets in advance as they are liable to sell out with all the other activities in Rapid City drawing a crowd during the powwow. You can get your tickets at eventbrite.com. You can also find info about it on Facebook at Black Hills Speedway.

The NWBRRA Finals will be October 7-9 at the Cam-Plex in Gillette, Wyo. For information about times and suchlike, call Lisa Heiser at 701-290-0293 or go to http://www.nwbra.com.

I got a call from Johnny Holloway the other night and he told me the 10th Annual Cowboy Reunion will be at Deadwood, S.D.'s First Gold Hotel on Oct. 22. Happy hour will be at 5 p.m., supper at 6 p.m. with the wild story telling and fun after that. There is a block of rooms reserved at the First Gold and you can call to reserve one of them at 605-578-9777. For other information, you can call Johnny at 605-964-3088. I'm going to make it to that deal one of these days and surprise Johnny nearly to death!

Also on Oct. 22 is the High School Fall Extravaganza Rodeo at 1 p.m. at the James Kjerstad Event Center in Rapid City, S.D. It will have the top 12 from each event from the 2016 season and should be a great rodeo to go and watch. For further information, call Dave Marone at 605-730-2088.

For all of you with AQHA foals to register, remember that you must have a 5-panel test done on the stallion who sired them before you can register the foal. It's a simple DNA test and I hear it doesn't take too long to get the results back once you've done it.

The 41st INFR will be held at the South Point Arena, Las Vegas, Nev. on Nov. 8-12. Reserved rooms and rodeo tickets can be gotten at the same time through the South Point by calling 866-796-7111. Well, that's my circle for another week. I hope you've been getting some of the rain that's been greening up the grass in our area. It won't make hay but it sure makes the fall pasture look a lot better! Hopefully we'll keep getting the rain and that the days will stay warm enough to help that grass keep growing.

Be sure an send me your upcoming events so I can tell everyone about them here!
