Paint Rock Angus – "The Brand of Quality"

Dan Piroutek

Auctioneer Joe Goggins makes pre-sale comments, along with sale host Tom Mercer.

Tom and Mary Mercer and their son, Martin, and his wife, Kelli, owners of Paint Rock Angus, hosted a big crowd for their annual production sale. The weather was beautiful on sale day and the trip over the mountains was one that I would recommend to everyone.

The Mercers have been breeding Angus cattle for 60 years. They breed cattle for multi-trait selection – cattle that will survive at high altitudes and still be easy on the eye. Paint Rock believes in calving ease and 50 percent of the bulls in the offering were bulls that could be used on heifers.

Top selling bull of the day was Lot 57, selling for $8,000 to Bob and Gail Stoddard of Newcastle, WY. He was a 2/8/08 son of the very popular Mytty in Focus, and weighed 72 pounds at birth before weaning at 646 pounds. His mother was a daughter of Paintrock Blockbuster 12, and he posted EPDs of -0.2 BW, +47 WW, +26 Milk, and +87 YW.
