Pushback on horse processing

I just read Birgit Schwartzenberger’s (published March 19, 2011 Tri-State Livestock News, page D5) objecting to horse slaughtering facilities for the third time and find nothing in it that I agree with. Schwartzenberger does not want horses sent to slaughter but gives no options for disposal of old, lame or unusable animals. To say that horses sell for a good price is just not true. Some horses cannot even be given away, as the BLM has found out.
