R & D Angus 12th Annual Bull Sale

Dan Piroutek

Pat VanderMay of Longvalley, SD, purchased the Lot 3 bull, along with Dan O'Neill of Tuthill, SD, and Steve VanderMay of Longvalley, SD.

R & D Angus is owned by Robb and Dana Cook. The sale this year had to be postponed from Monday to Thursday because of the snow in the area over the weekend. With the date change, the crowd was a bit smaller than previous years.

This was a very good set of bulls that were not overly pushed, but were still very strong in their genetic makeup.

The R & D cowherd is very strong in Stevenson genetics, and they are bred to thrive in the Sandhills environment. Robb Cook sets his breeding program around producing better females.

The calving ease bulls brought good demand, and also the top performance bulls stood out as bidders made their selections. The R & D bulls are bred to have a lot of rib and natural thickness, and are raised in a practical manner for the commercial cattleman.

Top-selling bull of the day was Lot 6, selling for $4,000 to repeat buyer, Arabia Ranch, from Wood Lake, NE.
