Raven Angus Performance Production Sale

Dan Piroutek and Scott Dirk

Brandon and Kendall Zeisler

Raven Angus, owned by Rod, RJ, and Reed Petersek, once again rolled out the hospitality for their annual production sale. This year the sale was moved to the farm three miles east of Colome on Hwy18. Their attractive new sale barn was built after the fire that had hit last year.

The Petersek family are involved in a big way in the commercial cattle business as they feed cattle on the farm and grow their own feed. This family has worked hard to develop one of the good herds of Angus cows in South Dakota. This very productive herd has lots of growth and performance, and these cows are bred to be maternal with good udders.

It was a good day to walk through the pens before the sale and enjoy the flavorful beef sandwiches. Many of the bulls at Raven Angus are sold in the neighborhood around Colome, but there were some new faces. The Petersek family are well-respected in their community.

Top selling bull of the day was Lot 20, going to the DeMers Ranch of Colome for $7,250. This bull was Raven Efficient 137, a son of CAR Efficient 534, and out of Raven Blackbird Blackie 17, a daughter of Bon View New Design 208 who had ratioed 117 on her first calf. He posted EPDs of +1.9 BW, +60 WW, +32 MILK, +111 YW, +0.23 MB, and +0.31 REA. With an 82 pound birth weight, he weaned at 741 pounds and reached a yearling weight of 1,362 pounds.

Brandon Ziesler from Napor, NE chose two of the top bulls in the sale. His top choice was Lot 13 at $5,750. He was a son of SAV Final Answer 0035 and out of a daughter of Grid Maker. With EPDs of +2.8 BW, +64 WW, +19 MILK, and +100 YW, he had a 13.5 sq. in. rib eye. Ziesler’s also bought Lot 11 at $5,250.
