Sandhills Red Select held their 2nd Annual Genetic Opportunity Sale March 21, 2011 at Valentine Livestock Market, Valentine, NE. This group of five families have joined together and created their own slogan, “Raising the Ranchers Kind.” This group is made up of Sandbur Ridge Red Angus, Ross and Lane Knott, Petersburg, NE; Birnie Red Angus, Paul and Milissa Birnie and family, Broken Bow, NE; Choat Cattle Co., Wayne and Jody Choat and family, and Dave Choat, St. Edward, NE; Cooksley Red Angus, Ben and Jileen Cooksley and Family, Anselmo, NE; and Bruns Red Angus, Kelly and Cindy Bruns and family, Bloomfield, NE.

These producers have one thing in mind – raising bulls and females for commercial cattlemen and women. These animals stand up in all of Mother Nature’s harshest conditions. Under their “Raising the Rancher’s Kind” slogan, these operations strive to provide the commercial cattle sector with Red Angus bulls and females that are moderate in size, efficient in function and sound in structure in order to reduce the cost of production and improve profitability.

Top selling bull was Lot 40, Ridge Tradesman 0041, a 2/6/10 5L Tradesman 1715-6327 son, that sold to Birnie Red Angus, Broken Bow, NE, for $6,000.

Lot 39, Ridge Tradesman 6237-0002, a 1/9/10 5L Tradesman 1715-6327 son, sold to Bruce Ketchum for $5,100.

Lot 42, Ridge Norseman King 0042, a 2/12/10 5L Norseman King 2291 son, sold to Richard Rankin for $5,000.

Lot 76, Bruns Franchise 005, a 4/14/10 5L Franchise 525-8606 son, sold to Al Steuter for $4,400.
