The Meyer family held the annual Sodak Angus Ranch Bull Sale at the ranch on Feb. 16, 2010. Sodak Angus has been in the purebred Red Angus and Angus business for 53 years, and their 2010 sale was the 51st annual bull sale held at the ranch. Throughout the history of Sodak Angus, they have bred and raised cattle that work in the real ranching world. They have utilized multi trait leading sires either through the use of AI or by purchasing the best genetics possible.

This year’s sale bulls were in good working condition. They had been developed in a high roughage ration and not been pushed. They will go out and gain weight while working in the breeding pasture throughout the summer. The bulls showed lots of natural thickness and the quality ran deep throughout the sale offering.

The high selling Angus bull on the day was Lot 19, Sodak Final Answer U584, a 3/03/08 son of LeMar Final Answer 523P. This calving ease performance bull had a weaning ratio of 107 and yearling ratio of 114 and has EPDs of BW +1.0, WW +52, YW +91 and Milk +19. Longtime repeat Sodak Angus bull customer Brian Morris of Meadow, SD was the buyer at $4,600.

Gotfredson Ranch of Newell, SD bought the next high selling Angus bull for $4,300. Lot 5, Sodak Final Answer U537, an 8/13/08 son of LeMar Final Answer 523P has a weaning ratio of 111, yearling ratio of 108 and EPDs of BW -1.1, WW +51, YW +88 and Milk +23.

Lot 4, Sodak Empire U 527, an 8/10/08 son of Sodak Empire R321, has EPDs of BW +1.2, WW +44, YW +80 and Milk +18. Brian Morris was the buyer at $4,200.

The top selling Angus yearling bull was Lot 41, Sodak Final Answer W 310, a 2/12/09 son of SAF Final Answer 0035 and sold to Grubbing Hoe Ranch of Buffalo, SD for $3,400. This is another high performance calving ease bull that has a weaning ratio of 110, yearling ratio of 109 and EPDs of BW 0.8, WW +47, YW +85 and Milk +23.
