South Dakota: Annual rancher’s workshop set for Jan. 12 in White River

BROOKINGS, SD – The South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service and several USDA organizations will host a rancher’s workshop on Jan. 12 in White River, SD.

The free event begins at 9 a.m. (CST) with registration at the Community Events Center, 501 E. Third St., White River. The program begins at 9:45 a.m. and includes a wide range of presentations that can help ranchers improve production and profit.

In addition to the workshop, a variety of booths will be on display for participants to view during registration, breaks and lunch. To include your booth at the event, call 605-259-3253, Ext. 3. Ranchers who have questions about workshop details also may call that number.

Presentations include “Is Your Cow Herd Range Ready?” by Travis Van Anne, a professional services veterinarian with Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. South Dakota Corn Utilization Council Endowed Dean of SDSU’s College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences, Barry Dunn, also will speak, sharing a presentation on the challenges and opportunities of South Dakota agriculture in the 21st century.

Dr. Richard Swenson, a futurist, author and researcher will present two discussions, “A Rendezvous with the Future: Understanding our Times,” and “Living Within our Limits.”

The event is the 32nd annual workshop held for ranchers, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Mellette and Todd County Conservation Districts, the Farm Service Agencies of both counties, South Center Resource Conservation & Development, and the Jones, Mellette, Rosebud, and Todd County Extension offices are joining together to make the event possible.
