South Dakota: June 18 Showdeo in Deadwood postponed due to horse virus

DEADWOOD – The all-cowgirl Showdeo scheduled for June 18 in Deadwood, SD, has been postponed due to a contagious virus found in horses in the western U.S. Organizers will schedule a new date once the outbreak has settled. The Showdeo was to be a fundraiser for the new Days of ’76 Museum in Deadwood.

The virus – equine herpes virus-1 – is an airborne virus that can be fatal to animals. The suspected source of the infections is a horse competition in Ogden, UT in early May. Cases have been reported across the western U.S.
