South Dakotan named president of National Agriculture in the Classroom Consortium

The Agriculture in the Classroom Consortium recently held their 2010 annual meeting in Baltimore, MD. The Consortium, composed of state contacts from Ag in the Classroom (AITC) programs throughout the United States, addressed a number of important issues, heard state reports and elected national officers to lead the organization.
The officers selected are as follows:
President: Lisa Dorschner, Pierre, SD;
President-Elect: Tami Kerr, Corvallis, OR;
Secretary: Lisa Gaskalla, Gainesville, FL; and
Treasurer: Andy Guffey, Little Rock, AR.

The officers will join representatives from Regional areas of the United States to make up the Ag in the Classroom Executive Committee for the National Consortium. Rick Waitley, Executive Director for the AITC Consortium, said, “The Ag in the Classroom programs are nationally involved in promoting agriculture literacy and developing a professional network for ag literacy leaders.”
Incoming President Lisa Dorschner, Pierre, SD will lead the organization over the next two years. President Dorschner stated, “Our records indicate that nearly 20,000 AITC volunteers worked in cooperation with over 70,000 teachers at all grade levels to help students understand where food and fiber comes from in their daily lives.” Dorschner went on to say, “These teachers and volunteers influenced the lives of approximately 1.2 million students with AITC resources.”
