Trump team needs to fill about 250 jobs at USDA
November 16, 2016
President-elect Donald Trump's team needs to fill approximately 250 positions at the Agriculture Department, current and former Obama administration officials have told The Hagstrom Report.
There are about 250 official politically appointed positions, but some jobs can be either held by politically appointed or career officials.
The USDA political appointees include the heads of the Farm Service Agency and Rural Development offices in each of the states and territories.
A publication called United States Government Policy and Supporting Positions — put together every four years just after the presidential election, and commonly known as the Plum Book — lists all political jobs, but the incumbents listed are not necessarily accurate. In some cases the listings are years out of date.
“We think with FSMA we have a set of rules that are based on science. We had input.” Mike Robach, vice president for corporate food safety, quality and regulatory affairs for Cargill
The Plum Book is published alternately by the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. The House committee published the last one, in 2012.
