UW Horse Judging Team claims honors at 2011 All American Quarter Horse Congress

A University of Wyoming (UW) Horse Judging Team member from Douglas won top overall individual honor, and the team claimed reserve champion in intercollegiate competition at the 2011 All American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio.

The team competed Oct. 19.

Teams judge four halter and eight performance classes. Stephanie Schroeder of Douglas won top individual honor. She was first in halter and second in reasons and performance.



The West Texas A& M University A Team was first with 3,241 points, UW had 3,216 points and Colorado State University Team A was third with 3,213 points. Eighteen collegiate teams competed.

“This team has worked extremely hard and really put the University of Wyoming on the map this week,” said Amy McLean, coach and assistant professor in the Department of Animal Science in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.



Ruth Uptain of Casper was second in halter and sixth in reasons, and Lisa Eckhardt of Watkinsville, GA, was fourth in halter. Corinna Slingerland of Lander placed in the top 20 for halter, and Lacey Teigen of Laramie placed in the top 20 overall.

The team competes next in the American Quarter Horse Association World Show in Oklahoma City, OK, next month.

The All American Quarter Horse Congress, in its 45th year, is the world’s largest single-breed show and receives more than 17,000 horse show entries.
