WRCA World Championship: Wild and woolly affair

Ranches either based in Kansas or that have leases there took the top four spots at the 15th Working Ranch Cowboys Association’s World Championship Ranch Rodeo (WCRR), which concluded Nov. 14 in Amarillo, TX.

It was a weekend of wild and woolly fun, with wild cow milking and more true-to-life ranching events. A total of 21 teams from Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Florida, Nebraska, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Arizona and South Dakota competed in the event put on by the Working Ranch Cowboys Association (WRCA) and sponsored in part by AQHA and The American Quarter Horse Journal.

The 2010 world champion team is a combined team from Scribner Ranch and El Dorado Livestock, from El Dorado, KS. The team is made up of dad John Scribner and brothers David, Doug and Daniel Scribner, as well as family friend Brett Cloud. The reserve world championship went to Beachner Bros. Livestock/Broken H Ranch of St. Paul and Bronson, KS.

The top horse of the rodeo, Sixes Sixgun, was sired by Sixes Pick and owned by Crofoot & Sandhill Ranches GP. Sixes Sixgun also was named the top American Quarter Horse of the WCRR, an award sponsored by AQHA. The big gray horse also won the overall championship of the ranch horse show sanctioned by the Ranch Horse Association of America and included in the championship rodeo.
