Wyoming: Fremont County Farm and Ranch Days is Feb. 9-10 in Riverton

More than 30 different sessions are part of Fremont County Farm and Ranch Days Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 9-10, in Riverton.

Sessions are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day in the Armory building. Topics cover livestock, crops, vegetables, money, soils and pesticide classes, among others.

“Farm and Ranch Days is one of the best opportunities for farmers and ranchers to attend to learn what is new and exciting and to see what the many vendors are offering to support their farm or ranch operations,” said Ron Cunningham, University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service educator in Fremont County.

“All the programs are come-when-you-can, and all meals are sponsored and free for farmers, ranchers and anyone with an interest in agriculture.”

State veterinarian Jim Logan will provide a legislative agriculture bill update during the noon meal Wednesday. Chris Jones of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will offer what the National Weather Service can do for farmers and ranchers during Thursday’s lunch. Jones is the warning coordination meteorologist in Riverton.

Session topics include monitoring range grazing, marketing timing for livestock sales, value of DNA testing, manure economics, fertilizer economics, calculating unit cost of production for cow-calf, irrigation efficiency, tax incentives, farm market associations and community support agricultural groups, arthritis, hoop houses and alternative energy resources and grants.
