It was a borderline cold day at the ranch sale ring located near Dix, Neb. even though the sun was shining and there was no wind. Many potential bull buyers roamed the back pens Feb. 7., with the ability to ask Ryan, Royce, or Roger McConnell about anything from bull data to maternal history. Buyers could bid all day long with confidence that the bull they purchased would be a “working bull” that would go out and get the job done in all categories from feed efficiency to maternal traits and everywhere in between. The quality matched the hospitality from the McConnell family and it was a pleasure to attend the sale. Here is how the top end looked:

Topping the sale at $25,000 was Lot 85, McConnell Consent To Go 2323, a Connealy Consensus 7229 son out of a SAF 598 Bando 5175 mother. This long aged bull had EPDs of BW 1.6, WW 57, Milk 32, and YW 96; complimented with actual birth and 205 weights of 74 pounds and 786 pounds respectively. He was purchased by MT Cattle Co. of Houston, Texas.

Lot 72 sold to Brenner Angus of Idalia, Colo., for $19,000. McConnell Final Choice 2472 is a son of M A Final Choice 8036 going back to Final Answer and out of a TC Aberdeen 759 cow. Another long aged bull who had actual birth and 205 weights of 70 pounds and 858 pounds to go with EPDs of BW 0.6, WW 63, Milk 31, and YW 105.

Lot 6, McConnell Resource 353, is a yearling bull that sold for $16,000. He is out of SAV Resource 1441 and a GAR 1407 New Design 7022 mother. He has EPDs of BW 2.7, WW 57, Milk 28, and YW 108 with actual birth and 205 weights of 82 pounds and 812 pounds. He was purchased by Steve Bass of Brewster, Neb..

Lot 10 and Lot 12 have a lot in common. They both sold for $15,000 and are both sired by SAV Angus Valley 1867 and out of Dolly of Plattemere 316. Both are long-aged bulls and both were purchased by Steve Bass of Brewster, Neb. Lot 10, McConnell Angus 301 was 75 pounds at birth and 808 pounds at 205 days while Lot 12, McConnell Angus Valley 340, was 87 pounds and 775 pounds respectively.

Lot 22, McConnell Consensus 3405, a Connealy Consensus 7229 yearling sold for $14,000 to Byron McCormick of Oshkosh, Neb.

Lot 74, McConnell Final Click 2315, a SAV Final Answer 0035 long aged bull sold for $14,000 to MT Cattle Co. of Houston, Texas.
