It was a very nice October afternoon for the annual NILE Gold Buckle Weanling/Yearling Sale with a large crowd to bid on the fine set of young horses.
The top selling horse was a big, stout grey gelding consigned by Copper Spring Ranch, Bozeman, MT. He was an own son of the great Playgun and out of a Doc Quixote mare – a complete package of pedigree, conformation, size and condition. Ashley Quarter Horses of Forsyth and Belt, MT purchased the good yearling at $8,250.
Hip #701, another Copper Spring Ranch consignment was the second high-selling horse. A yearling filly sired by Top Perry by Mr. Jess Perry out of a Dash for Cash-bred mare sold for $3700 to Juli Jo Kelly of Ulm, MT.
Next was another yearling filly sired by Purdy Boy Flash going back to High Brow Cat and out of a High Brow Cat-bred mare. Again consigned by Copper Spring Ranch, the filly was purchased by Ty Tipton, Bozeman, MT, at $3,500.
Bill and Rema Schelm sold a fancy blue roan yearling gelding at $2,000 to Dakota Gaustad, Scobey, MT. This gelding was sired by Montleon Baca out of a CC Zan Parr Coty-bred mare.
The first horse in the sale was a yearling stallion sired by Zipanic and out of a Simply a Spark mare. Consigned by Ward and Alice Fenton, the yearling sold to TNT Quarter Horses of Parkman, WY, for $2,000.
A blue roan stallion consigned by Broken Bones Cattle Co. of Lander, WY, sold for $2,000. This very stout, high-colored colt sold to C. T. Ripley of Huntley, MT.
The high-selling weanling was a sorrel stud colt raised by Ward and Alice Fenton. This colt was sired by Zipanic by Simply a Spark and sold to Laurie Marcotte of Shepherd, MT.
All of the weanlings and yearlings that sold through this sale are eligible to come back and show in the NILE futurities, a Yearling Futurity, 2-year-old Futurity, 3-year-old Futurity, and the Midnight Corona Barrel Racing Futurity. NILE paid out over $13,000 in the 2012 Futurities.
